Why AI Regulation? Biden is “the AI”: Safeguarding Artificial Intelligence

AI regulation by top executives

You probably have wishes for your childhood or youth when you have the energy to push limits. President Joe Biden made a joke of being AI in his announcement of the agreement with Google, Meta, Amazon, and ChatGPT to safeguard artificial intelligence. Given a chance, many people would wish to be artificial intelligence. Currently, men are queueing to purchase their dream babes from Replika and ladies are making marriage vows to artificial intelligence husbands. When you interact with these stories, you begin to see that many people would wish to be artificial intelligence in their lifetime!

A reporter jokingly asked the sitting leaders if they were real or robots. As President Joe Bidden made his way into Roosevelt Room, he made this coveted statement “I’m the AI” and the house broke into laughter.

How do you ensure AI safety?

Fears over Artificial Intelligence taking over continue to weigh down on employees, especially in the tech and entertainment industries. The recent artificial intelligence-induced strikes by Hollywood workers are part of the tales that tell the ugly truth. However, for a longer time, many expressed the desire to put guardrails but researchers and pundits rejected these ideas in the VivaTech event. The recent meeting by executives from Amazon, Anthropic, Meta, and Google among other tech giants to minimize misuse of robots is part of the top-down initiatives.

The Whitehouse meeting resolved three fundamental principles to guide Artificial intelligence development including:

  • Security
  • Safety
  • Trust

The companies agreed to subject new large language models to external testing. This is aimed to assess the impacts of these new systems on discrimination, safety, American rights, and health information.

You must remember that President Joe Bidden faced considerable attacks using Artificial intelligence after he announced his re-election bid.

The Republican National Committee published a video attacking the sitting president. This was the first fake Artificial Intelligence footage released by a major political organization. In the footage, a small disclaimer in white text reads “Build entirely with AI imagery.”

How AI is used in political campaigns?

If you asked me, I relate it to the old cigarette ad problem, “attractive smoke with invisible warning of danger.” It’s no longer the cognitive dissonance problem, it is about hiding the undesirable. Large language models are already used by self-proclaimed campaigners to make political rivals kiss.  The danger is growing exponentially and something had to be done now.

Bringing the key stakeholders together to put responsibility in Artificial Intelligence implementation on their shoulders is a hope we cannot overlook.

Nonetheless, the stakeholders noted that tech companies do not walk the talk despite voluntary pledges to act responsibly. The current guidelines are inadequate. It only requires that companies report without specific responsibility to eliminate risks.

The use of Artificial Intelligence is growing so are its related fears. Bidden administration continues to demonstrate its willingness to put guardrails. These initiatives will not only benefit, the political class but all those who live in fear of the negative impacts of the robots.

Is AI regulation Possible?

Artificial intelligence has come with several challenges. Users of these systems have faced critical security challenges in the recent past after their 10,000 accounts were dumped in the Dark web for sale. Many have lost jobs and resorted to dog walkers. In other instances, political aspirants lost seats due to artificial intelligence-generated images.

Artificial Intelligence triggered binge drinking among tech execs and other worrying trends. These only reflect part of what humans are going through in the new era. Pundits agree on the need to do something regarding Artificial Intelligence development. However, they are divided on how to regulate Artificial Intelligence with some saying that regulations will undermine the development progress.

Regulating AI is a collective responsibility for both users and developers. The White House agreement is part of the top-down approach to regulation that will make Artificial Intelligence regulation possible.
