The AI project is inching closer to the open general target with each passing day. AI algorithms are
being trained to think like humans and be able to perform human-related tasks. There are expectations
that their ability to solve problems will exceed human capacity. Artificial intelligence algorithm
systems are being trained using graphics chips known as GPUs. As a result of the huge demand for
these chips to power the computing needs of these algorithms, the cost of GPUs has drastically
soared. The competition towards the release of these algorithms further escalates the price hike.
OpenAI has spent over $100 million to train the algorithm that powers ChatGPT.
This price hike, however, signifies opportunities for several start-ups that aim at creating other
computing power alternatives. This will create much competition for the popular Nvidia GPUs. One
such start-up is Normal Computing by Moonshot’s lab X which has developed a prototype
for rebooting computing from first principles. Faris Shabi, CEO of Normal Computing agrees
that the AI trend so far has been successful and impressive, but also sees opportunities that can be
harnessed in terms of software architecture and hardware.
Another company Extropic, founded by ex-quantum researchers is also working towards using
thermodynamics for AI computing. Vaire Computing, also working on AI computing is working to
bring in a different perspective from the norm in which calculations can be performed without
destroying information.
AI technology has been growing for over 50 years now and is gradually gaining momentum. Start-up
companies interested in harnessing the opportunities presented by the trend are on the lookout for
investors who will support them to contribute computing power beyond GPU’s capacity. AI is here to
stay just like other technologies such as electricity, telecommunication, and air transportation that
have marked important milestones in human existence. Indications point to the fact that the payoff
for investors would be humongous and a long-run thing. AI is an innovation that will transform the
whole of humanity. Activity trends by Chat GPT show that AI algorithms are beyond software
working by statistical precision, as they are being predicted to perform beyond expectation and
design in the future.
